Empowering Youth to Take Charge of Their Online Safety

Ensuring online safety is a responsibility that lies with individual users, according to High Sound for children Organization.

This important message was highlighted by the organization’s founder, Hadijah Mwanje, during the Holiday Media Program with Young People, held recently in Kampala.

During the one-day training on online safety, participants were equipped with various strategies to stay smart and safe in the digital world. Mwanje emphasized that while social media is a global trend, local regulators often have limited influence. Therefore, it is crucial for individuals to take proactive steps to protect themselves online.

Participants were also reminded of the advantages and disadvantages of social media and were encouraged to use these platforms with purpose and intention.

“Knowing who you are is key,” Mwanje advised. “It can guide you in choosing content that aligns with your values and helps you avoid inappropriate material.”

Young People shared the experience on using online platforms including social media.
